It seems that the compact crossover Peugeot 2008 has been well studied: it has been on sale in Ukraine for many years, is often seen on the streets, and has been updated, as we have already mentioned. So what else can be added here? You can add information about the electric version of the Peugeot E-2008 and impressions from the winter test drive. And it immediately became interesting!

How does the Peugeot E-2008 electric car differ from the regular Peugeot 2008?

Only with logo details. The electric vehicle based on the Peugeot 2008 crossover also received similar changes: a new front bumper with triple LED stripes and a new grille, headlights with double horizontal lines and the word "Peugeot" between them. Among the features of the Peugeot E-2008 are logos with a stylized letter "E" and a charging port instead of a fuel filler cap.

By the way, the charging port used is CCS Combo 2, which is expected for a European electric vehicle. It should also be noted that Peugeot E-2008 supports AC charging with a capacity of up to 11 kW (in which case it will take about five hours to fully charge the battery), as well as "fast charging" with a DC capacity of up to 100 kW - in this case, battery charging within 20-80% is promised at 27 minutes. Charging from a regular household outlet is also possible, but will take much longer.

ThePeugeot E-2008 electric car is a familiar compact crossover Peugeot 2008 (length 4.3 meters, width 1.77 meters, height 1.55 meters, wheelbase 2.605 meters), which differs only in a few details: various logos and designations, a charging port instead of a fuel filler cap.

We have a similar approach in the cabin. There is a familiar overall architecture, a small steering wheel and a digital 3D dashboard cluster above it, a horizontally oriented 10-inch touchscreen display, and a concave part in front of the passenger that hints at additional space. In fact, the Peugeot E-2008 electric car, like the original Peugeot 2008, is quite low by crossover standards - like a cross between station wagons and SUV models. Because of this, there is a feeling of a rather low, almost passenger car-like seating position. Moreover, the seats are very comfortable, with well-developed lateral support and a pleasantly dense Alcantara coating.

By the way, such a coating was also spared for the rear seats: thank you, passengers will appreciate it. But otherwise, there's not much to tell: the roof is almost car-like low, there's enough legroom, there are a couple of ports for charging phones, and there are no ventilation deflectors. The trunk offers sufficient volume (434 liters) and a two-level floor: it's convenient to hide the charging cable and other small items. There are also a couple of side pockets and a box organizer with a tire repair kit; however, there is no spare tire or even a spare tire.

The interior is familiar in general shapes and small details: the front panel, seats, trunk. But what are the differences in an electric car? Only in a few specific pages of the central display menu and indicators on the dashboard that demonstrate the electric nature of the Peugeot E-2008. You can also notice the letter "B" instead of the usual "M" on the already familiar joystick switch. By the way, while in the usual Peugeot 2008 this joystick is responsible for controlling the automatic gearbox, which is docked to the internal combustion engine, in the case of Peugeot E-2008 it is responsible only for selecting the direction of movement - because under the hood there is an electric motor and its gearbox. It should be noted that when was updated, the Peugeot E-2008 received important technical changes: a new, more powerful electric motor and a larger battery.

By the way, what about the new electric motor?

In short - during its debut, the Peugeot E-2008 electric car received the technology that has already been analyzed on the example of the Opel Mokka-e; and now, during the update, the Peugeot E-2008 electric car received new electric technology that has already been analyzed on the example of the Citroen e-C4. That is: initially, the Peugeot E-2008 had a 100 kW or 136 hp electric motor and a 50 kWh battery with a promised range of up to 310 km according to WLTP rules; and now it has a 115 kW or 156 hp electric motor and a 54 kWh battery with a promised range of up to 406 km according to WLTP rules.

So I get a Peugeot E-2008 electric car for a test drive and immediately look at the charging and range indicators: almost full battery charge and the cherished figure of 400 km of range! By the way, in the economical ECO mode, the on-board computer shows even more than promised: at 97% battery charge, 418 km of range is promised; but in sport mode, it turns out to be somewhat less - we have 380 km of range. However, to be honest, even this figure is very difficult to achieve in winter. During a week-long test drive, energy consumption in the city was stable at 18-18.5 kWh per 100 km, but if you want to drive dynamically, the figures immediately increased to 19-20 kWh, and if you drive dynamically on a regular basis, they even exceed 20 kWh per 100 km. By the way, a similar figure is obtained on the highway: when driving at 100 km/h, the electric car consumes about 20 kWh per 100 km of travel. Yes, the test drive took place in winter, and the Peugeot E-2008 electric car will probably show better results in good weather conditions in spring or autumn.

However, perhaps the main thing for Peugeot E-2008 is not energy consumption and range, but rather dynamics and drive. The electric motor with its quick response to the accelerator pedal allows for good and precise acceleration: you can dose the speed increase with just millimeters of movement of your right foot. Together with the signature sensual steering wheel, bouncy suspension and low-mounted battery, it all sets you up for a dynamic drive. Somewhat unexpectedly, the term "charged baby" has begun to sound completely different: it refers to the character of the Peugeot E-2008 electric car itself, and to the need to recharge it to show this character to the fullest. So if you are interested in a small, convenient electric car for the city, which does not make you worry about every pothole on the road, but makes you smile in the next turn under traction - suddenly, but this Peugeot E-2008 can be quite an interesting option.

The new 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor is now the most powerful in the lineup of all versions of Peugeot 2008 offered in Ukraine. At 260 Nm of torque, the electric motor is second only to the turbo diesel (300 Nm); but note that this torque is available almost instantly - without any pauses in the engine's response and waiting for gear changes. As a result, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds is promised, and 150 km/h top speed. According to my own measurements, I got 9.2-9.5 seconds, depending on the selected driving mode; I agree to attribute the slight deviation to winter tires. But a significant difference in the range (in reality, in winter it turns out to be 250-300 km against the promised 400+ km) cannot be attributed to the tires: Peugeot E-2008 likes to "eat" electricity - it seems that it is not so much about autonomy as it is about emotions.

Is there something similar, but with better economy and range?

Yes - and here I propose to mention once again the Citroen e-C4 electric car, which has already been discussed in a separate article. Let me just remind you of the main points: The Citroen e-C4 looks like a crossover hatchback with a teardrop-shaped aerodynamic roof, and it has a very soft suspension. The interior is somewhat simpler in terms of equipment: for example, you won't find a seat with massage, a unique 3D instrument display, and instead of Alcantara, ordinary fabric is used. At the same time, the cabin is more spacious and practical: you can find a pull-out shelf in the front, and ventilation deflectors are provided in the rear.

But the most important thing is that the Citroen e-C4 electric car is more economical in terms of energy consumption. Let me remind you that since the first test drive in the spring of 2024, this particular Citroen e-C4 has shown energy consumption in the city of 15-16 kWh per 100 km. I took the Citroen e-C4 for a second test, and in the winter it was a little more; but in general, the average figure for it was 17 kWh per 100 km of city driving.

The small difference between the last spring test drive and the current winter test drive can be explained by similar temperature conditions: the first test was in early spring, it was still quite cold; the second time was in the middle of winter, the temperature was around zero, and sometimes there were mild frosts. I should also note that during both the first and second test drives, the Citroen e-C4 was shod with winter tires. Therefore, I conclude that +1-2 kWh of energy consumption is an error due to the winter test conditions. By the way, the Peugeot E-2008 was also tested in similar weather conditions; only its energy consumption was slightly higher, with an additional 1-1.5 kWh per 100 km.

TheCitroene-C4 electric car is already well known to regular readers: an interesting cross-hatchback format, an interior with an emphasis on practicality rather than emotion. It also has similar technology: an electric motor and a battery pack. By the way, the smoothness of the electric motor's responses fits the generally soft and smooth nature of this electric vehicle. But in this case, the Citroen e-C4 was not so much the star of its own test drive, but rather as a "reference point" for evaluatingthe Peugeot E-2008 and understanding its energy consumption - is it the winter's fault or does the Peugeot E-2008 really consume a bit more than expected? You can see the answer for yourself: The larger (length 4.35 m vs. 4.3 m) and heavier (1596 kg vs. 1550 kg) Citroen is also more economical than the Peugeot; I can only find an explanation for this in the aerodynamic body and narrower tires of the electric car Citroene-C4.

And how much does the Peugeot E-2008 cost? And how much do they ask for similar competitors?

The electric crossover Peugeot E-2008 is offered in Ukraine in only one version: a 115 kW electric motor, a 54 kWh battery, and a GT configuration.

According to Peugeot's internal gradation, the GT configuration is the maximum. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Peugeot E-2008 GT offers everything at once: ESP and ABS systems, front and side airbags, inflatable side curtains, adaptive cruise control, collision warning and emergency braking system, active lane keeping system, traffic sign recognition, mirror blind spot monitoring, climate control, keyless entry and start, electric windows front and rear, front and rear parking sensors, HD 360 view cameras, heated front seats, wireless charging, Peugeot i-Cockpit interior with digital 3D dashboard cluster, 10-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Alcantara interior trim, driver's seat with power adjustment and massage, Full LED headlights and adaptive high beams, 18-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear door and trunk lid glass, black roof, black roof rails, etc. The price of Peugeot E-2008 GT 2024 starts from 1.406 million UAH or $34 thousand; the price of Peugeot E-2008 GT 2025 starts from 1.45 million UAH or $35 thousand.

The equipment is the same, but maximum: combined seat trim, back massage function, large 10-inch display, 360-degree view, various security systems - all this is already present in the list of equipment of Peugeot E-2008 GT; accordingly, the price is considerable.

For example, the Citroen e-C4 electric car offers similar technology (electric motor and battery), lacks a massage driver's seat and a 3D dashboard cluster, but can offer heated rear seats. And it can also offer a lower price: today the cost of the Citroen e-C4 (albeit from the remains of the 2023 model year) starts at UAH 1.346 million or $32.5 thousand.

By the way, the price of the Opel Mokka-e electric car is even lower - starting at 1,144-1,23 or $27.5-30 thousand, depending on the year of production. However, in this case, we are talking about an electric motor with a capacity of 100 kW or 136 hp and a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh, as well as a smaller body and interior space. On the other hand, the Opel Mokka-e model boasts matrix headlights, similar Alcantara combined trim, and a large 12-inch dashboard display. That is, the buyer definitely has a lot to choose from. And now the main question arises...

So: to buy or not?

Currently, there are many models in the $27-35 thousand electric vehicle segment, both from authorized dealers and private sellers who most often sell electric vehicles from the Chinese market. And the question of choosing an electric car is not only about choosing a brand or model, but also about the desire to have a factory warranty and company financing, the possibility of cooperation between the legal entity-buyer and the official dealership, etc. If you need the status of an "official" and a suitable electric vehicle, then this electric crossover Peugeot E-2008 will definitely be on the list; but it is definitely not the only one.

It's strange - here's an article about the Peugeot E-2008, but in the end, it suggests a recommendation to buy the Citroen e-C4, which offers more interior space and less energy consumption while driving for less money. Personally, it is the Citroen e-C4 that takes the first place in my rating. However, I won't say anything against the Peugeot E-2008: attractive from the outside and futuristic inside, pleasant to drive, with excellent equipment, which determines the considerable price - in the end, it is a well-deserved second place. Accordingly, the Opel Mokka-e electric car gets bronze in my personal standings among the top three. Although there's no doubt that even it will find its customers who will be attracted either by the price or the design, or both. After all, just remember the words of an automotive classic from the late 1990s: a fisherman with two rods will definitely catch more fish than a fisherman with one rod. And if he has three, maybe even more? That's exactly what we see in the Peugeot E-2008 and its siblings.
