DOGE employee who had access to the US Treasury payment system resigns over racist remarks

- 7 February, 12:38 PM

Marko Elez, a 25-year-old employee of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), resigned after The Wall Street Journal drew attention to his racist posts on X.

Marko Elez worked on cost reduction and anti-fraud at the Ministry of Finance as part of the Musk program. Previously, he was a software engineer at Musk X and SpaceX.

"Normalize Indian hate," Marco Elez wrote in X.

The publication addressed the White House Administration regarding the statements of one of its representatives.

"Just for the record, I was a racist before it was fashionable," Marko Elez wrote in July 2024.

Spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said that Eles had already resigned.

"I just want a eugenic immigration policy, is that too much to ask for?" writes Elez.

By the way, Marko Elez had access to the Treasury's payment system, which raised concerns about the possible transfer of confidential data to Musk and his allies, including banking information of millions of Americans.

Two labor unions representing federal employees and an advocacy group representing retirees have filed a lawsuit against the Treasury Department, accusing it of violating federal privacy laws.

A Justice Department lawyer said that Ehlez and another special Treasury official associated with DOGE, Tom Krause, had read-only access to the payment system and that no data was shared outside the department.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended the DOGE employees on Bloomberg Television, saying that the unit is made up of trained professionals.

"This is not some roving group that just runs around and does things. This is a methodical work that will bring big savings," Bessent said.
