The company announced the layoffs during a general meeting, where employees were told that they would be informed immediately if a decision was made to lay them off.
In a letter to employees, the company's interim CEO, Tom Conrad, said that the company was "stuck in too many layers, making it difficult to collaborate and make decisions." He also added that Sonos is restructuring, which will include significant changes in the product development team.
"We are reorganizing our product organization into functional groups for hardware, software, design, quality and operations, and away from dedicated business units devoted to individual product categories,” Conrad wrote. “With this simpler organization in place, cross-functional project teams will come together to improve our core experience and deliver new products," Conrad said in a statement.
