Paradox buys Haemimont Games, developers of Tropico
The Swedish company Paradox Interactive, one of the leaders among PC game publishers, has announced the acquisition of Haemimont Games, the studio of the well-known developers of Tropico 3, 4 and 5 and Surviving Mars. The amount of the deal has not yet been disclosed.
Although the exact amount of the deal was not disclosed, Paradox Interactive said in a statement that the acquisition includes an upfront payment and earn-outs equal to it to be made over the next few years. The deal is expected to close within a few days.
After the acquisition is completed, Haemimont Games will be fully owned by Paradox, and the entire management team and other studio employees will remain. At the same time, Haemimont will continue to work on existing projects.
"We are very happy to welcome Haemimont Games to Paradox!” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox. “They bring a tight-knit team with long experience in developing management games with many well received projects in their portfolio. Moreover, they have a strong creative streak, technology developed for their niche, a new IP in development and a strong culture that fits Paradox’s way of working. We have strong faith in their team and leadership, and our main focus now is to ensure that they can continue to create great games under new ownership," said Frederick Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive.
Haemimont Games is a Bulgarian game studio founded in 1997 that specializes in urban planning simulations and historical strategies. However, the studio also has experience in developing games in other genres.
