Trump says new US sovereign wealth fund may buy TikTok
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing a US sovereign wealth fund and suggested that it could be used to acquire TikTok, TechCrunch reports.
The fund is expected to be set up within the next 12 months by the US Treasury and Commerce Departments, although it is not yet clear how exactly. Earlier, Trump said that the fund could be financed by "tariffs and other reasonable things."
Last month, Trump signed an executive order that postponed the TikTok ban for 75 days. Although the app is available again after a 12-hour shutdown, it is still not available in the Google Play and App Store.
Trump said he is in talks with several people who are interested in buying the social network. Last week, he said that Microsoft was in talks to acquire TikTok, and earlier he said that he was open to Tesla CEO Elon Musk or Oracle CEO Larry Ellison buying the platform.
According to Trump, he is likely to make a decision on the future of TikTok in the US in February.
