Microsoft Defender VPN was not very popular because it was only available to users in the US and UK. Although the company promised to launch the service in other regions, this never happened.
We routinely evaluate the usage and effectiveness of our features. As such, we are removing the privacy protection feature and will invest in new areas that will better align to customer needs," Microsoft writes.
The company also states that this is the only feature that will be disabled for now. According to Microsoft, "Device Protection, Identify Theft, and Credit Monitoring in the United States will continue to operate."
