Among Elon Musk's associates who have taken senior positions in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) are recent college graduates. At least one of the six identified Musk aides is still in college, and most of them have no government experience, WIRED reports.
Six men between the ages of 19 and 24 will play an important role in the new DOGE department. Their main task is to "modernize federal technology and software to maximize government efficiency and productivity."
All of these Elon Musk aides have poorly defined positions at DOGE, and one of them is considered a volunteer. Nevertheless, they have taken control of OPM and the General Services Administration (GSA) and gained access to the Treasury Department's payment system, potentially giving them access to millions of people's confidential information.
The day before, CNN reported that DOGE employees tried to illegally access classified information and the security system of the Agency for International Development, and the senior USAID security officials who prevented this attempt were soon sent on vacation.
Some of the assistants Elon Musk brought with him had already participated in meetings where GSA employees were forced to analyze their code and justify their work. Some of Musk's associates have already received government emails from the GSA, including Luke Faritor, who used to be an intern at Musk's SpaceX company. Several of his other assistants have also received government work emails.
In addition, the associates brought in by Elon Musk have been granted A-level access to the GSA, which gives them the ability to work on the top floor of the agency and access to all physical facilities and IT systems. Sources who spoke to WIRED expressed concern that the new teams and Elon Musk could bypass standard security protocols to gain access to the agency's confidential information.
