Microsoft unveils new Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 laptops with Intel chips
Microsoft has officially un veiled updated laptops - Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11. They belong to the Copilot+ line and are equipped with new Intel Lunar Lake processors that support artificial intelligence. Sales of the devices will start on February 18.
The laptops have the same design as the versions with Snapdragon X chips that the company introduced last May, but at a higher price. Surface Laptop 7 with an Intel processor will start at $1499. This is $500 more than the Snapdragon version. The same goes for the Surface Pro 11, which will cost $1499, not $999, like the Qualcomm chip version.
Laptop 7 will have versions with 13.8 and 15-inch displays. Both can be equipped with Intel Core Ultra 5 or Ultra 7 chips, up to 32 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage. Microsoft also claims that the larger model will last up to 14 hours on a single charge, while the smaller one will last up to 12 hours. Judging by the stated figures, Intel laptops will last an hour less than their Qualcomm chip alternatives.
Surface Laptop 7 will have one USB-A 3.2 port, instead of 3.1 in the Snapdragon version, two USB-C 4 / Thunderbolt 4 ports, a Surface Connect port for charging, and a 3.5mm jack. The displays remain the same as in the Qualcomm version. Later this year, Microsoft also plans to release a Laptop 7 with 5G, but no other details have been disclosed.
Surface Pro 11 with Intel chips is also not much different from the Qualcomm version. There is only one size - 13-inches, but you can choose from LCD or OLED panels, the same as in the Snapdragon version. Buyers will be able to choose a configuration with Core Ultra 5 or Ultra 7 and install up to 32 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.
The ports are also unchanged - two USB-C 4/Thunderbolt 4 and Surface Connect for charging. In addition, the device has an NFC scanner to support security keys. There is no 3.5mm jack on the Pro 11, so headphones will have to be used either through an adapter or connected via Bluetooth.
Given the limited number of ports on the new laptops, Microsoft also showed an updated USB 4 dock that will be released on February 18 for $199. This device is compatible with all USB-C-enabled Surface laptops and allows you to connect two 4K monitors at 60 Hz. In addition, it has 65W of pass-through charging and supports 40Gbps data transfer. The front panel features a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port and a USB-C 4 Gen 3 port. On the back, there is also a USB-C 4 Gen 3, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, and a 100W power supply connector.
