Ubisoft has announced the closure of its London studio, which mainly supported other teams. This and other layoffs will lead to the dismissal of 185 employees, although some will be offered remote work. This was reported by Eurogamer.
The company will also cut teams in Düsseldorf (formerly Blue Byte), Stockholm, and Ubisoft Reflections' Newcastle office, in addition to closing the Leamington studio. The total number of layoffs - 185 employees - includes all of these offices, not just the closed studio.
Ubisoft Leamington was founded in 2002 under the name FreeStyleGames. It was created by former employees of Rare and Codemasters. In 2008, the studio was acquired by Activision, where it operated until 2017.
Among the studio's latest projects were support for the development of Tom Clancy's The Division games, as well as participation in the creation of Star Wars Outlaws, Skull and Bones, and Far Cry 5. While working with Activision, the studio released DJ Hero, DJ Hero 2, Guitar Hero Live, and joined the development of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
