Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, a company known for its smartwatches, plans to return to the production of such gadgets. In addition, Google has agreed to release the open source code of Pebble OS, which significantly increases the chances of reviving this brand. It is reported by The Verge.
Migicovsky will not be able to use the Pebble name for his new company, as the rights to this trademark belong to Google, which acquired Fitbit, which included the Pebble brand in 2019. Currently, the company's founder has created a website, RePebble, where you can sign up for a waiting list to receive the latest news and be among the first to buy new accessories.
The new startup does not yet have a name, but Migikovsky said that this issue will be resolved later this year. He also noted that a small team is working on the project. The device is expected to have a screen based on e-Paper technology, long battery life, and be easy and pleasant to use.
Migicovsky notes that, unlike many modern startups, he does not plan to add a lot of artificial intelligence features or other popular technologies. His main goal is to revive Pebble in the style they used to be, as he believes that the old watch models have already reached a level where they do not need additional changes.
