NVIDIA considers DeepSeek 's R1 model to be a "remarkable achievement in the field of AI" despite the fact that its appearance led to a drop in the US company's shares. On January 27, 2025, the giant's shares fell by 17%. This is reported by CNBC.
"DeepSeek is an excellent AI advancement and a perfect example of Test Time Scaling," said an NVIDIA spokesperson. "DeepSeek’s work illustrates how new models can be created using that technique, leveraging widely-available models and compute that is fully export control compliant.".
NVIDIA also adds that the GPUs used by DeepSeek are fully compliant with US export requirements.
By the way, former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger admired DeepSeek's new R1 AI model. He said he would use it in his new startup Gloo instead of OpenAI models.
Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman welcomed the new competitor and noted that the Chinese company's model impresses with a wide range of features for its price. However, OpenAI still provides much better models.
