PlayStation Productions to relaunch Resident Evil movie franchise
PlayStation Productions is preparing a new film that will be a reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise. The new project will be directed by Zack Gregg, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Zach Cregger is an American comedian who directed his first horror film Barbarian in 2022. The film received positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
For the new film in the Resident Evil series, Cregger will write the script himself. He aims to make it closer to the roots of the game franchise, as well as much scarier.
The film does not yet have a distributor, and negotiations are ongoing. Netflix and Warner Bros. are competing for the distribution rights. Previously, Resident Evil movie adaptations directed by Paul Anderson were released by Sony Pictures, but it is unclear whether the company is applying for the new film.
