The new big game of the once legendary arcade racing series Tokyo Xtreme Racer from Genki Studio is now available on Steam Early Access.

The Tokyo Xtreme Racer series, also known as Shutokō Battle, is a series of games dedicated to street racing in Tokyo and has been released since 1994. The first installment, Shutokō Battle '94, was released in Japan for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and later for the first Sony PlayStation. The games of the series were released on Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation 2/3 and Portable, Xbox 360, and since 2003 on Microsoft Windows.

But the last major installment of the series, Shutokō Battle Ten, was released in Japan back in 2006, and since then only mobile versions of the game for Android and iOS have appeared. And now, at last, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is back, but only on Windows PC.

As before, the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer is dedicated to night racing on the streets and highways of Tokyo. An interesting feature of the series is that the races here are somewhat similar to fighting games: you have to not only overtake your opponent, but also defeat him in Spirit Point Battle, a kind of spirit race where each player has a kind of spirit/health scale that decreases if the other racer has performed a successful maneuver, overtaken you, gained a certain distance, etc. Of course, the game will also feature real Japanese cars and a powerful customization system.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is already available on Steam and has a fairly pleasant price of 869 UAH. The authors plan to improve the game based on player feedback for at least 4 months. The full version will feature over 200 opposing racers, 50 licensed cars, and over 180 km of roads. As of now, the game has a Steam rating of 96/100 based on 175 reviews.
