Already in 2028 and with an electric motor: the iconic Citroen 2CV may return!

It seems that a fashion for the return of well-known retro models is emerging in Europe, as exemplified by the Renault 5 E-Tech. Citroen wants to keep up with this trend and is considering launching a new version of the iconic Citroen 2CV, AUTOCAR reports.

It is expected that the new Citroen 2CV will use the Smart Car platform from the current Citroen C3 and its electric version Citroen e-C3. However, it will have an original design made in the style of the historic Citroen 2CV model.

Another "starting point" for a possible Citroen 2CV is the Dacia Spring electric car: a very compact 3.7-meter hatchback with a small battery and a low-powered engine, but with a fairly low starting price of about 17 thousand euros. In other words, the new Citroen 2CV is supposed to be electric, compact, and affordable: it will be positioned between the Citroen C3 and Citroen Ami.

However, only the future will show how these plans can become a reality. The first prototype of the Citroen 2CV is expected to appear in 2026, and the launch of the finished model is possible in 2028 - with such a time frame, everything can change significantly...
