Seagate has introduced the Exos M hard disk drive with a record-breaking 36TB capacity. This HDD utilizes HAMR Mozaic 3+ technology, which provides an extremely high level of data storage. According to the company, the new HDD will be an ideal solution for deploying scalable data centers.

The use of the Mozaic 3+ platform is the first introduction of HAMR technology in the industry. According to Seagate, the new hard drives will significantly improve data center scalability, reduce total cost of ownership, and improve environmental performance. In particular, these HDDs reduce power consumption per terabyte by 60%.

The company also said that it is now ramping up shipments of Exos M hard drives with capacities up to 32 TB for leading cloud service providers. Separately, the company is also testing new 36 TB drives.

In addition, Seagate CEO Dave Moseley said that the company has already successfully tested HDDs with a capacity of 6 TB per platter, instead of 3.6 TB used in the new media. This will allow the company to produce HDDs with capacities up to 60 TB in the future.
