Leading publishers continue to cancel large game services that were in development. According to the Korean MTN website, cited by Insider Gaming, the MMO in the Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West universe, developed by NCSoft, has been canceled.
Allegedly, at the beginning of 2025, the development of three NCSoft projects was suspended, one of which is the very MMO in the Horizon universe. South Korean NCSoft has been making a killing on MMORPGs, which it has been releasing since 1998. These are the Lineage, Guild Wars, and Aion games, which are well known to Ukrainian players.
As a reminder, Guerrilla Games, the studio that developed the original Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, is currently working on a multiplayer project called Horizon Online, which is a kind of multiplayer for the series, but not an MMO. Horizon Online is supposed to be released in 2025.
According to Sony's reports, Horizon games have sold a total of 32 million copies as of May 2023, 8.4 million of which were added by Horizon Forbidden West. At least 4.5 million of the total sales were on Steam.
