Microsoft plans to make new layoffs and dismiss a small percentage of the least efficient employees from various departments, including the security division. This was reported by Business Insider.
In comments to the media, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the layoffs will take place, but did not go into details, such as how many employees will be fired.
"At Microsoft we focus on high performance talent. We are always working on helping people learn and grow. When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action," said a company spokesperson.
Sources familiar with the situation say that the company's managers have been evaluating employees over the past few months to the level of 80, which is one of the highest.
The company usually replaces employees dismissed due to poor performance, so changes in the total number of employees will be insignificant. As of June, the company's headcount stood at around 228,000.
By the way, in 2024, Microsoft made a lot of layoffs in its gaming divisions. At the beginning of the year, the company laid off 1,900 game development employees. Subsequently, the company closed several Bethesda studios, and at the end of 2024, it again laid off 650 Xbox employees.
Earlier, Meta also announced its intention to lay off 5% of the least efficient employees, which in the case of the company amounts to about 3,600 people.
