LG Displays has announced the 4th generation of OLED displays, which have a peak brightness of 4000 nits — 33% brighter than the previous version, and are also optimized for TVs with artificial intelligence.

In a press release, the company said that the new panel's innovations center on the Primary RGB Tandem structure, LG Display's proprietary technology that uses independent stacks of RGB elements to create light.

The Primary RGB Tandem structure used in fourth-generation OLED TV panels organizes the light source into four layers, adding two layers of blue elements and separate layers of red and green elements. This increases maximum brightness by increasing the amount of light generated by each layer compared to the previous three-layer design.

LG also notes that one of the improvements of the new panel is its improved energy efficiency, which has been optimized to meet the significantly higher expected power consumption of AI TVs. The company claims to have achieved 20% more energy efficiency with the fourth generation.

In addition to improving maximum brightness and energy efficiency, LG's new displays also deliver higher color vibrancy. By separating the red, green, and blue elements into separate layers, the company has achieved a color brightness of 2100 nits, a 40% increase over the third generation.
