As the ban on TikTok in the United States approaches, the language learning app Duolingo is seeing a growing number of Americans seeking to learn Chinese. This was reported by The Verge.

This is attributed to the fact that more than 700 thousand local TikTok users are "migrating" to the Chinese app RedNote.

Duolingo estimates that the number of Americans seeking to master Mandarin Chinese increased by 216% over the year from December 1, 2024, to January 13, 2025.

Earlier it was reported that TikTok plans to shut down its app for users in the US on January 19, 2025, ahead of the federal ban's entry into force, unless the Supreme Court intervenes and blocks the law.

However, The Washington Post reports that US President-elect Donald Trump is considering signing an executive order to delay the implementation of the federal law requiring the sale or ban of TikTok in the US. The decree is expected to suspend the law for 60-90 days.
