DJI has introduced a new ultra-compact folding drone, the Flip. It will cost $439 and combines "the simplicity of the DJI Neo with the stunning photographic capabilities of the DJI Mini".
DJI Flip is capable of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second and slow motion video at 100 frames per second. The camera can capture 48-megapixel images with 4x zoom.
The Flip weighs 249 grams, which is the same as the Mavic Mini, but significantly heavier than the Neo (135 grams). However, the heavier weight means a much longer battery life. The Flip lasts 31 minutes on a single charge, compared to the Neo's 18 minutes.
DJI Flip also features automatic braking to prevent collisions at high altitudes, as well as improved charging and data transfer speeds. The company compares the new local data mode to airplane mode on a smartphone, which allows the system to disconnect from the Internet while flying.
As a reminder, a recent update to DJI's drones resulted in the disabling of the system for restricting flights over airports and military installations in the United States. This could lead to a ban on the sale of the company's products in the United States. The ban was signed into law by the Senate in the summer of 2024 and will be considered in 2025.
