According to Nikkei Asia, Apple will soon begin mass production of its first A-series chips made in the United States at TSMC's Arizona fab.
According to the report, the test production of chips at TSMC's new plant near Phoenix has already been completed. Apple is now in the final stages of checking their quality and performance. The first batch of commercially usable chips could be ready for mass production as early as this quarter if the quality control processes are completed successfully.
The plant is expected to produce the A-series chips used in Apple devices, mainly for older iPhone models. According to recent reports, the company will produce the A16 Bionic chip for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the S9 chip for the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
The start of mass production at the Arizona plant will be the first time Apple Silicon chips have been manufactured in the United States. Previously, they were manufactured exclusively in Taiwan.
