The new electric trucks will operate on long-haul routes in the UK and Germany, delivering more than 350 million packages annually.
The company says that this order is part of Amazon's commitment under The Climate Pledge to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2040. In transportation, this also means improving route efficiency, reducing exhaust emissions to zero, and partnering to deploy charging infrastructure.
Amazon also says it will install 360 kW electric charging stations in key locations that will be able to charge a 40-ton truck battery from 20% to 80% in just over an hour.
The eActros 600 is the flagship electric truck for long-haul transportation from Mercedes-Benz Trucks. It is equipped with a battery with a capacity of more than 600 kWh and has a range of up to 500 kilometers without recharging. Mercedes-Benz Trucks recently started production of the eActros 600 at its plant in Germany.
