At CES 2025, Intel unveiled the new Core Ultra 200HX processors, designed for the next generation of gaming laptops, as reported by The Verge. This new series complements the Arrow Lake mobile processor lineup, which covers devices ranging from ultrathin laptops to high-performance gaming models.
The 200HX processors will pair with next-generation graphics cards from NVIDIA, whose presentation is expected later today. Meanwhile, the 200H and 200U series are intended for premium consumer laptops and compact devices, with shipments starting in the coming weeks.
The Core Ultra 200HX series processors will become Intel's flagship offering for gaming laptops, promising enhanced performance compared to the previous Raptor Lake-H Refresh processors. According to Intel, the new chips deliver:
- A 5% improvement in single-threaded tasks;
- A 20% boost in multi-threaded tasks.
The flagship model, Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX, features 24 cores (8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores), a clock speed of up to 5.5 GHz, 4 graphic cores, and 13 TOPS NPU (neural processing unit). This allows the processor to handle AI workloads and achieve AI PC certification, although it lacks the power to support Microsoft Copilot Plus features.
Gaming laptops equipped with the 200HX series processors and NVIDIA RTX 50 graphics cards are expected to hit the market by the end of Q1 2025.
In addition to gaming laptops, Intel also announced Core Ultra 200H and 200U series processors for premium consumer laptops and ultrathin devices:
- Core Ultra 200H Series – Targeted at premium laptops, these processors feature updated Intel Arc graphics, providing 15% better graphical performance compared to Meteor Lake chips. The flagship, Core Ultra 9 285H, has 16 cores (6 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 2 low-power cores), 8 graphic cores, and a clock speed of up to 5.4 GHz.
- Core Ultra 200U Series – Designed for energy-efficient laptops and ultrathin devices, these processors have a base power consumption of only 15W. The most powerful in the series, Intel Core Ultra 7 265U, features 12 cores (2 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 2 low-power cores) and can operate at speeds of up to 5.3 GHz.
As expected, Intel confirmed that Arrow Lake processors will continue to support traditional memory modules, making them more practical for mass adoption.
Intel plans to release gaming laptops with 200HX series processors by the end of Q1 2025, while models with 200H and 200U processors will begin arriving in stores within the next few weeks.
