According to previous reports, Apple planned to release the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025 with a processor manufactured using a 2nm process. However, due to production issues, this chip is likely to appear only in the iPhone 18, reports ChosunBiz.

According to recent data from insiders in South Korea, TSMC was supposed to handle the production of the new 2nm chips. However, the Taiwanese company has faced issues with wafer defects during the manufacturing process.

Additionally, insiders mention that the 2nm process has not yet been certified for mass production. TSMC's factories are not fully prepared for the production of new chips.

Currently, the company produces around 10,000 wafers per month, with plans to increase this to 80,000 by 2026. However, approximately 40% of the wafers turn out to be defective, making the chip production process for Apple more challenging.

Apple will continue to use the 3nm process for the iPhone 17. Once TSMC can adapt its manufacturing capabilities, improve wafer quality, and reduce costs, we can expect the release of an iPhone with a 2nm chip.
