Elon Musk often tries to appeal to different audiences, including gamers. In November 2024, he claimed to have set a world record for the fastest completion of the penultimate trial in Diablo IV — Artificer’s Pit. Additionally, he boasted about his performance in Path of Exile 2, although, as noted by a Reddit user, it may not have been his achievement.
Around two weeks ago, Elon Musk conducted a livestream of Path of Exile 2 during a flight from Texas to Florida to demonstrate the capabilities of the Starlink system, but he played using someone else's account. More specifically, he played from a Chinese user’s account.
This is suggested by several details from the livestream. Firstly, the account name was MonkEBiznizz, and some interface elements, such as trade notifications, were displayed in Chinese. Additionally, the trade invitation showed that Elon Musk was playing on the Hong Kong server, even though he was flying to Florida at the time and initially used Texas servers at the beginning of the stream.
However, more convincing are other arguments. The world’s richest person, who supposedly leveled his character to level 93 and has enough in-game currency for premium gear sets, still struggled to defeat a single in-game boss. Moreover, it’s unlikely that someone with a net worth over $400 billion and active connections to Donald Trump’s office, who is set to become the next President of the United States, would spend hundreds of hours playing Diablo IV or Path of Exile 2.
