Microsoft warns users that some manually created installation media for Windows 11 24H2 may contain a bug that prevents new computers from receiving security updates, according to BleepingComputer.

The bug can occur in both USB and CD installers created with updates released in October and November 2024.

"When using installation media for Windows 11, version 24H2, the device may remain in a state where it cannot receive further Windows security updates. This occurs only if the media was created to install security updates from October 2024 or November 2024 (these updates were released between October 8, 2024, and November 12, 2024)," Microsoft states.

This issue does not affect already installed systems that received updates via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

To resolve the problem, users need to update the Windows 11 installation media by including the December 2024 update (released on December 10) and then reinstall Windows.
