OpenAI is considering creating a humanoid robot and has already made investments in robotics companies such as Figure and 1X, reports TechCrunch.
According to two informed sources, OpenAI has been exploring the possibility of developing a humanoid robot for some time. Despite these investments and plans, the timeline for the release of such a device remains uncertain.
In addition to investing in humanoid robot manufacturers, OpenAI has also funded Physical Intelligence, a company focused on integrating general generative AI into real-world applications.
Interestingly, the developer of ChatGPT has previous experience in robotics. Up until 2021, the company operated a separate division dedicated to creating robots, which was later shut down.
Previously, ChatGPT was used in the new humanoid robot Figure 02, unveiled in summer 2024. Among other features, the robot is capable of conversation.
