The next generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses may feature a built-in display. Аccording to Financial Times the device is expected to hit the market in 2025.
Meta has an existing AR glasses project called Orion and aims to maintain the simplicity and minimalist concept of the current Ray-Ban lineup. The display will reportedly cover only part of the lens, likely to show notifications and messages from Meta's virtual assistant.
One of the key factors behind the success of the $300 Ray-Ban Meta glasses has been their ease of use. While adding a functional augmented reality display may enhance the device's features, it could significantly increase its price.
The first Ray-Ban Meta glasses, launched in 2021, didn’t gain much traction. However, the second-generation glasses, released in October 2023, surpassed the sales of the previous model within just a few months. Notably, in 2024, global shipments of smart glasses grew by 73%.
