MediaTek has announced its new flagship mid-range processor — the Dimensity 8400. It is set to compete with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.
The Dimensity 8400 features eight Cortex-A725 cores clocked up to 3.25 GHz. MediaTek claims a 41% improvement in performance compared to the Dimensity 8300.
Additionally, MediaTek promises 44% lower peak power consumption, a 100% increase in L2 cache size, a 50% increase in L3 cache size, and a 25% larger SLC cache capacity.
The chip supports screens with a resolution up to WQHD+ (1440p) at a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage, along with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Additionally, the chip features a new 5G-A modem, providing download speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps.
The Dimensity 8400 is equipped with an Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, offering 24% higher peak performance and 42% lower power consumption.
For AI tasks, the Dimensity 8400 includes the MediaTek NPU 880, which is 20% faster in integer and floating-point operations (33% faster in text generation for large language models), 18% more efficient, and 21% better in Stable Diffusion 1.5.
The chip also has the Imagiq 1080 ISP, supporting 320-megapixel sensors, internal zoom with 100% PDAF, HDR video recording across the entire zoom range, and consumes 12% less energy during 4K HDR video recording.
The first smartphones featuring the Dimensity 8400 will be available in early 2025.
