Meta has decided to end support for WhatsApp on Android smartphones with KitKat and older versions. According to GSMArena, starting January 1, 2025, devices older than 10 years will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. The reason for ending support is the development of features and capabilities in WhatsApp, with Meta aiming to introduce AI-powered features that require more modern hardware.
Here is a list of popular older smartphones still using WhatsApp:
Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
Additionally, Meta announced a few months ago that support for iPhones running iOS versions older than 15.1 will also end. However, support for these devices will continue until May 2025.
