Last week, the European Commission proposed demands for Apple to open more iOS features to third-party accessory developers. It was later revealed that one of the requirements included providing access to AirDrop and AirPlay technologies on Android devices, according to 9to5Google.

"Apple must provide a protocol specification that gives third parties all the necessary information to integrate, access, and manage the AirDrop protocol within an app or service (including within the operating system) that runs on a third-party connected physical device. This will enable these apps and services to send files to iOS devices and receive files from them, according to the commission's document.

In addition, the EU wants AirPlay, Apple's proprietary wireless protocol that enables the streaming of video, audio, screen content, and photos between devices, to be available on other platforms. Technically, it is already available on some TV models from other manufacturers, but it still falls short of the level of accessibility seen with Google Cast.
