The newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump stated at the AmericaFest event that he wants TikTok to continue operating in the U.S. for at least some time. This was reported by Reuters.
He explained that he received billions of views on the platform during his presidential campaign.
""I think we should continue, because, you know, we went on TikTok, and we got a tremendous response with billions of views, billions and billions of views," Trump said.
By the way, Trump recently met with TikTok's CEO and mentioned that he has a "soft spot" for the app.
In April 2024, President Joe Biden signed a bill requiring TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to sell the social media platform by January 19, 2025 (the day before Trump's potential return to office), or it would be banned in the U.S.
ByteDance filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, which agreed to review the arguments on January 10.
