The chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on China has appealed to Google and Apple. The companies should be ready to remove TikTok from the US app stores on January 19, 2025 without delay. This is reported by Reuters.
TikTok asked the US Court of Appeals to suspend the law so that it could be reviewed by the US Supreme Court. Just one day after the planned blocking, on January 20, the inauguration of the newly elected US President, Donald Trump, who opposed the blocking of the app, will take place.
However, the US Federal Court of Appeals also upheld the law, which requires the Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok in the US or face a blocking order.
"Congress has acted decisively to defend the national security of the United States and protect TikTok’s American users from the Chinese Communist Party," the lawmakers say.
The Justice Department said that if the ban goes into effect on January 19, it "will not explicitly prohibit the continued use of TikTok" by Apple or Google users who have already downloaded the app. But the ban on support will ultimately lead to TikTok becoming inoperable.
