Google is preparing major hardware changes with the release of its next flagship Pixel 10 smartphone line, according to Android Authority.
Recently, it became known that Google will start developing Tensor G5 and Tensor G6 processors for future smartphones on its own. Previously, this was done for Google by Samsung. It was also reported that the company will replace the modem in the new devices. Now, instead of Exynos, it will be MediaTek.
🔥🔥🔥 Leak: Google is using a Mediatek modem in it's Pixel 10 series - see the details now only on @AndroidAuth https://t.co/LZTD58ZlvG
— kamila 🌸🏳️⚧️ (@Za_Raczke) December 15, 2024Before making the decision, Google considered all available options, including Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75 modem, which is also used in the iPhone 16. By the way, Apple plans to gradually abandon Qualcomm modems and switch to its own chips in the coming years. As a result, for one reason or another, Google decided to rely on the yet-to-be-released MediaTek T900 modem.
Unfortunately, almost nothing is known about the new MediaTek modem, except that it is based on the M85 generation architecture. For comparison, the M70 modem supported the 5G specification according to the 3GPP Release 15 standard, and the M80 modem supported the updated Release 16. Therefore, we can assume that M85 will support Release 17 or even later.
