At The Game Awards 2024, Naughty Dog announced the remaster of The Last of Us II on PC, which will be released on April 3, 2025, but a much more important announcement was Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This is a completely new project for the PlayStation 5, set in an alternate world where space travel has advanced significantly by 1986.
Naughty Dog CEO Neil Druckman describes the new project as the studio's "craziest, most creative story yet." The game centers on a new protagonist, Jordan A. Moon, a dangerous bounty hunter who finds herself in the middle of events on Sempiria, a distant planet that lost contact with the outside world hundreds of years ago.
Everyone who has traveled to Sempiria in an attempt to uncover the secrets of its past has never been contacted or heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits to the max if she wants to become the first person to leave this planet in over 600 years.
According to Druckman, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet "follows in the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey." However, in addition to a deep and emotional story, this game will be a compilation of everything the studio has learned in terms of gameplay and will offer players the deepest gameplay of all Naught Dogs games.
Although there are no more details about the game itself, the developers told us how they created and what inspired them to work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The new game is based on classic anime films like Akira and anime series like Cowboy Bebop.
Work on the new project began in 2020, and over the past four years, more than 250 people have been working on the game. In addition, Nine Ich Nails band members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were involved in the game's soundtrack. The role of the protagonist was played by actress Tati Gabrielle, and information about other cast members is promised to be revealed in the future.
