One of X's main competitors, Bluesky, is planning to introduce a subscription service. GitHub has published mockups that demonstrate the Bluesky+ subscription costing $8 per month with additional features for users. This was reported by TechCrunch.
The company notes on GitHub that not all the features in the mockup can be implemented. But from Bluesky's past announcements, we know that the subscription will offer higher quality video downloads and additional profile customization, such as page colors and unique avatar frames.
The mockup also reveals that the social network will feature custom application icons, a Bluesky+ profile icon, built-in translations of posts, post analytics, and bookmarking folders.
Of most interest is that Bluesky may consider offering verification as part of its subscription. The company has recently spoken about its plans for verification: due to the open nature of the network, its system can function quite differently from the paid verification on the X and Threads platforms.
Subscription is not the only model the company is considering. Bluesky CEO Jay Graber said that the company is also considering alternative monetization options, such as the sale of domain names, the algorithm market, and even the potential sale of advertising.
