The world's first alternative to Apple Pay for iPhone has appeared in Norway

- 9 December 2024, 03:39 PM

The Norwegian company Vipps, which created the mobile payment app of the same name, was the first in the world to offer iPhone users an alternative to Apple Pay. This became possible due to the fact that Apple previously allowed third-party developers to use NFC technology.

"We have been fighting for a long time to be able to compete on equal terms with Apple. So it seems almost surreal to finally launch our own solution," says Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.

Vipps users will be able to use the app for all types of payments. Thanks to the program, they will be able to pay for purchases in stores, online orders, as well as make payments to organizations and associations, and much more.

Contactless payment on iPhone with Vipps will work on all terminals that support BankAxept cards. According to the company, nine out of ten card terminals in Norway support this technology.

Over time, the company will expand this feature to terminals that support Visa and Mastercard. This will allow the use of Vipps contactless payment on iPhones worldwide.
