Blizzard is removing the original versions of the first two Warcraft titles after releasing remasters of dubious quality. The company has also asked GOG to remove the games. This was reported by Ars Technica.
Usually, when a game is remastered or remade, no one demands that the original version be removed. However, companies continue to do so anyway.
The remasters of Warcraft and Warcraft II are sold on Battle.net for $10 and $15 respectively, or as a trilogy set for $40. At the same time, the dilogy adapted to modern PCs can be purchased from GOG for $7.83. The company has made certain changes to the network code of Warcraft I and fixed DirectX for Warcraft II to improve its scaling on monitors with modern resolutions.
The games will be available on GOG until December 13, 2024. The company says it plans to support games even after they are removed from the store.
"Going forward, even if a game is no longer available for sale on GOG, as part of the GOG Preservation Program, it will continue to be maintained and updated by us, ensuring it remains compatible with modern and future systems," GOG's post states.
