Google has released a test version of Wear OS 5.1 based on Android 15. The new OS is already available for developers. This is reported by 9to5Google.
Google highlights two main features of the new system: support for the Credential Manager API and music playback through the watch's speaker.
The Credential Manager API provides a unified authentication solution by supporting sign-in flows using passwords, keys, and federated identities (e.g., Sign In with Google). User credentials are stored with a credential provider that synchronizes account information across devices.
Wear OS 5.1 is currently available for app developers in the Android Studio emulator. By the way, the build has some problems:
- The emulator does not always allow the user to add an account during the setup process after resetting the device.
- When you tap on a notification, the application that sent the notification does not open until the user scrolls the screen.
- Wear health services sometimes fail to start exercises.
Unfortunately, Google has not yet announced a release date for the stable version of Wear OS 5.1.
