OpenAI has notified users of its paid ChatGPT subscription in Ukraine that the company will start paying VAT from January 1, 2025. This was announced by Yaroslav Zheleznyak, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Tax Committee, on his Telegram channel.
Users are advised to update their OpenAI account by adding a valid VAT identification number. Otherwise, according to the tax legislation of Ukraine, the company will be forced to automatically charge and collect value added tax from the accounts of account holders.
Law No. 1525-IX, which is mentioned in the report, is known as the "Google tax". It obliges foreign internet companies to pay 20% VAT.
By the way, it is known that in the 3rd quarter of 2024, such revenues providedmore than UAH 3.1 billion to the budget of Ukraine.
