Apple has introduced the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max processors for better performance and support for Apple Intelligence. They also received other improvements, such as Thunderbolt 5. The new laptops are already available for pre-order, and sales will start on November 8, 2024.
The laptops are available in black and gray colors. The 14-inch model comes with an M4 and Thunderbolt 4 processor and a minimum of 16 GB of RAM. The cost of this version is $1599. There are also 14- and 16-inch models with M4 Pro and M4 Max processors with Thunderbolt 5 support. The cost of 16-inch laptops with M4 Pro starts at $2499.
All models are equipped with Liquid Retina XDR displays with a peak brightness of 1000 nits and the ability to choose a display with nanotexture. MacBook Pro also received an improved 12-megapixel Center Stage camera. The company claims that the laptops can run up to 24 hours on battery power, the longest in Mac history.
The base model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro features a 10-core M4 chip and a 10-core GPU, which the company says has the most advanced graphics architecture. The laptop is equipped with a minimum of 16 GB of unified RAM with an option to choose up to 32 GB, along with 120 GB/second bandwidth.
The next option is the MacBook Pro with a 14-core M4 Pro and a 20-core GPU, which Apple says is twice as powerful as the M4. Thanks to the updated chip, the laptop received a 75% increase in memory bandwidth compared to previous generations and "twice as much as any AI chip for PCs."
The most powerful model is the MacBook Pro with a 16-core M4 Max processor and a 40-core GPU. At the same time, the laptop is equipped with the Neural Engine, which is more than 3 times faster than the M1 Max, which will speed up the work of artificial intelligence models on the device. This model will support up to 128 GB of RAM for developers working with large language models with more than 200 billion parameters.
In bright lighting conditions, the notebooks can also display SDR content with up to 1000 nits of brightness and HDR content with a maximum brightness of 1600 nits. The new 12-megapixel Center Stage camera will improve the user experience during calls by keeping them in the center of the frame. A system of six studio-quality speakers and microphones will also help.
At the same time, Apple said that Apple Intelligence appeared in macOS Sequoia 15.1, but only in English.
The company also announced that MacBook Airs with M2 and M3 chips will now have a minimum of 16 GB of RAM, but will retain the same price of $999.
