It may not be a "dream car" for us, but for the United States it is! After all, once upon a time, the name Scout was synonymous with a real cult off-roader produced by International Harvester. That is, the full name of the vehicle was International Harvester Scout, where the phrase International Harvester is the name of the manufacturing company, and the word Scout is the name of the model.
And now, 44 years later, the Scout name is back, with the support of Volkswagen. From now on, the word Scout will be the name of the brand, under which it is planned to produce two models at once: the Traveler SUV and the Terra pickup truck. And not only unusual, but also electric. Everything seems to be different - but the essence hasn't changed: it's still about real off-road conquerors.
The Traveler SUV visually resembles its predecessors: straight body lines, front wheels significantly moved forward, a large overhang and a spare tire at the rear. The electric vehicle turned out to be large, a true American full-size: we have a 5.28-meter length and a 3.06-meter wheelbase. It is also a real off-road vehicle: all-wheel drive with two electric motors, locking front and rear differentials, and an integrated frame.
The interior of the Traveler SUV also follows the style of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, but with modern details. The shape of the front fascia is reminiscent of the past Scout, as is the gray-beige seat trim or the rectangular dashboard. But look closely - the dashboard is nothing more than a modern display with a vintage speedometer.
The technical equipment of Scout electric vehicles is currently known only in general terms. It is already clear that there will be all-wheel drive with two electric motors. The total torque is indicated at 1355 Nm, which promises 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds. It is also known that there is an 800-volt architecture and the possibility of fast charging with a capacity of 350 kW.
Finally, the Scout electric vehicle is promised a range of 350 miles (564 km) on a single full battery charge. However, it is also known that a version with a gasoline "range extender" called Harvester is being prepared - in this case, the total range will be 500 miles (800 km).
In addition to the Traveler SUV, the company has also announced the development of the Terra pickup truck, which is expected to use similar technology. Currently, the presented Scout Traveler and Scout Terra electric vehicles are pre-production prototypes, but they are already very close to production models. We even know the date of the production launch (2027) and the estimated price - from $60 thousand.
