Apple has released update 7B19 for the AirPods Pro 2 headphones, which adds support for Hearing Health hearing enhancement features. MacRumors writes about it.
The headphones will be able to conduct a hearing test and will have a hearing aid mode to compensate for mild to moderate hearing loss. There will also be a machine-learning hearing protection mode - the headphones will adaptively use noise cancellation to protect the user from excessively loud sounds.
These features will only be available when paired with an iPhone running iOS 18.1 or later. Currently, iOS 18.1 is still in beta, but it is scheduled for release on October 28, 2024.
The update should install on the headphones on its own when the AirPods are in the charging case and connected to an iOS or Mac device.
