Samsung has unveiled a new 8-core Exynos 1580 processor manufactured on a 4-nanometer process technology. The new chip is the successor to the Exynos 1480 used in the Galaxy A55.
The processor has a three-cluster architecture: one large 2.9 GHz Cortex-A720 core, three medium 2.6 GHz Cortex-A720 cores, and four small 1.95 GHz Cortex-A520 cores. This system should make the new chip more productive and energy efficient than its predecessor.
The Exynos 1580 uses the Xclipse 540 GPU, which has two workgroup processors (WGPs) instead of one. The chip is also equipped with a neural processor that supports up to 14.7 trillion operations per second (TOPS) with up to 2 MB of memory.
Other features of the new chip include support for Full HD+ displays with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, a camera of up to 200 megapixels, video recording up to 4K 60 fps, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1, 5G storage, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4.
According to Samsung, the new processor has 37% higher performance than the Exynos 1480. Samsung Galaxy A56 5G should receive it.
