Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) has introduced a new sensor for smartphones under the LYTIA brand.
The new product is called LYT-818. This is a 50-megapixel CMOS sensor with a 1/1.28 matrix, advanced noise reduction, and wide dynamic range.
The LYT-818 features a technology that makes low-light images much clearer. It uses ultra-high gain (UHCG) circuitry to convert light into an electrical signal more efficiently, reducing unwanted noise or "grain" in photos. This advanced design delivers a noise figure of just 0.95 e-, the lowest of any Sony mobile sensor.
The LYT-818 utilizes a new HDR technology that helps capture details in both very bright and very dark areas of a scene. It does this by taking a single shot and processing it with three different settings to balance highlights and shadows.
The sensor is also designed to consume less power. This allows HDR to run continuously, even during real-time previews on your smartphone screen.
Key features of the LYT-818 sensor include a 1.22 µm cell size, Quad Bayer Coding color filter and a maximum frame rate of 120 fps for 4K resolution. It supports analog, digital and MIPI output interfaces.
Mass production of LYT-818 is scheduled for mid-September 2024. According to rumors, the first smartphone with the new Sony sensor will be the vivo X200 Pro.
