At the Meta Connect 2024 event, Meta showed the long-awaited Quest 3S budget mixed reality headset, which replaced the Quest 2.
Meta Quest 3S is powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor. The same chip is installed in the more expensive Quest 3 version. However, the Quest 3S does not have the pancake lenses of the Quest 3, but comes with Fresnel lenses and a narrower field of view.
The Quest 3S, on the other hand, features Quest 3's full-color end-to-end mode with a dedicated Action Button to switch between end-to-end and immersion mode.
Quest 3S has a resolution of 1832×1920p and a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz. The viewing angle is 96° horizontal and 90° vertical. It has 8 GB of RAM paired with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage.
The device has a 4324 mAh battery. Although smaller than the Quest 3's 5,060 mAh battery, it offers up to 2.5 hours of battery life compared to the Quest 3's 2.2 hours of battery life.
Meta Quest 3S is already available for pre-order. The 128 GB version costs $299, and the 256 GB version costs $399. Sales of the new product will begin on October 15, 2024.
