The White House has proposed a ban on the use of technology from "countries of concern" in cars. These countries include China and Russia. This was reported by News.Az.

“These technologies include computer systems that control vehicle movement and collect sensitive driver and passenger data as well as cameras and sensors that enable automated driving systems and record detailed information about American infrastructure,” the White House said in a statement.

Authorities are concerned that in the event of a possible aggression, a hypothetical adversary could take control of the vehicles and cause multiple accidents or use them for surveillance and data collection.

The United States considers the Communist Party of China to be the main threat to cybersecurity. The U.S. Department of Commerce has identified certain Chinese and Russian technologies used in Internet-connected vehicles as posing a "particularly acute threat" and is currently working on a rule to ban their imports.

The ban will cover all cars with “systems designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by entities with a sufficient nexus to the PRC [People’s Republic of China] or Russia.”

If the draft is approved, the software ban will come into effect for cars from the 2027 model year, and the hardware ban will come into effect from 2030. Automakers told the bureau that they often do not know the source of specific component suppliers.
