Samsung has announced the industry's first automotive SSD with PCIe 4.0 interface, based on eighth-generation V-NAND flash memory.

It was named AM9C1 and replaced the AM991 model. The key updates of this generation are significantly improved energy efficiency - by about 50%. As well as higher data transfer speeds. In the 256GB configuration, the new SSD can deliver sequential read speeds of up to 4,400MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 400MB/s.

Like other automotive electronics, this SSD is optimized for endurance. It uses TLC (triple-level cell) flash memory and SLC Namespace (single-level cell), which increases sequential read speeds up to 4,700MB/s and write speeds up to 1,400MB/s, and improves reliability. The drive also offers stable operation over an extreme temperature range of -40°C to 105°C.

Currently, key partners are testing the 256GB AM9C1 model, but Samsung will offer SSDs with capacities ranging from 128GB to 2TB. Mass production of the 2TB version is scheduled for early next year. It will be the largest automotive SSD on the market.
