The Audi Q5 crossover has always been one of the best sellers - both within its class and for Audi as a whole. Therefore, the launch of the new generation of the model had to be treated very appropriately. And what did Audi do? It seems that they have simply combined the best of the recent Audi A5 and Audi Q6.
The Audi Q5 crossover has retained its body format, it is similar in size and proportions to the new Audi Q6 - but it is not an electric car, but a classic car. After all, the new Audi Q5 is built on the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform and is offered with gasoline or diesel engines. And this is already reminiscent of the history of the Audi A5; just like the single elongated headlights and the real grille.
At launch, the Audi Q5 crossover will offer a 204 hp 4-cylinder 2-liter TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine - it can be combined with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. An alternative is the similar 4-cylinder 2-liter TDI turbodiesel engine, also with 204 hp - but it is immediately available with all-wheel drive. Both engines have a 48-volt hybrid MHEV system that powers an additional electric motor that briefly adds 18 kW or 24 hp and 230 Nm of torque. The 48-volt power system is also used to drive the air conditioning compressor, so it runs even when the engine is disconnected (for example, when stopped at traffic lights and when the stop-start system is activated).
Other interesting design features include self-adjusting FSD shock absorbers for conventional spring suspension or the option of ordering an air suspension that allows you to adjust the ground clearance. Also among the features of the new generation Audi Q5 crossover is an interior with multiple displays and a curved panel, which we have already seen on the Audi A5 and Audi Q6.
However, for the first time ever, the Audi Q5 has interactive IAL lighting: the colored stripe not only sets the atmosphere in the cabin, but can also display warning lights.
Finally, it is worth noting the simultaneous debut of the Audi SQ5, a sporty version of the new generation Audi Q5 crossover. Everything is exactly as you would expect: a dedicated exhaust, numerous black accents in the design, and a sports suspension. But most importantly, the Audi SQ5 crossover is equipped with a 3-liter V6 TFSI gasoline engine that develops 270 kW or 367 hp and 550 Nm of torque!
Sales of the new model will start soon, and the price is already known in Europe: Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI with front-wheel drive - from 52300 euros; Audi Q5 2.0 TDI with all-wheel drive - from 57100 euros; Audi SQ5 V6 TFSI - from 82900 euros.
