The upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update will improve the performance of AMD Ryzen processors. On average, performance will increase by 10%. However, it is not necessary to wait for a major update, Ars Technica writes.
Users of Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 9000 processors can install the KB5041587 update by going to Windows Update in Settings, selecting Advanced settings, and then Additional updates.
AMD claims that with the update installed, processor performance increases by up to 13%. There are also advantages for users of older Zen 4 (Ryzen 7000/8000G) and Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000) processors, but the company does not specify the percentage of performance gain.
Hardware Unboxed found a 10% improvement in 1080p games on the Ryzen 7700X. The latest Ryzen 9700X delivers an average 11% performance improvement in the same gaming benchmarks.
The update takes the already high frame rate and makes it even higher; for example, in one game, the average frame rate went from 142 FPS to 158 FPS on the 7700X, and from 167 FPS to 181 FPS on the 9700X.
But there is a caveat. CPU performance was tested exclusively in 1080p games paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. If you play in higher resolutions, such as 1440p or 4K, your GPU tends to become a bottleneck again, and the improvement in CPU performance will not be as noticeable.
